This was a brilliant couple of hours (albeit we had awful weather) - they take you to the private reserve and you can look in the nesting boxes of Little Blue Penguins and the specially built tunnels to view any Yellow-Eyed Penguins on the reserve. We were lucky enough to see 3 yellow-eyed penguins who were in their moulting stage. Be aware that numbers are dwindling and the time of year you visit is quite crucial to whether you may see any here. We also saw a few blue penguins and lots of NZ fur seals and 1 sea lion in the bay.
Staff were excellent and knowledgeable. We also were luck enough to have all 5 species of penguins endemic to NZ in their recovery centre.
